Her name is Jazzy Rowe
The events that took place at the University of Hartford in West Hartford, Connecticut is a testament to the importance of the #sayhername hashtag.
Freshman Chennell (Jazzy) Rowe, was ordered to keep the heinous acts committed by her roommate private. In attempt to drive her roommate away, Brochu had tampered with Rowe's personal belongings, smearing them with bodily fluids. This had been going on for months, and only brought to the attention of the victim on October 17th. The University had refused to publicly address this until Jazzy Rowe brought it to the attention of the public in a Facebook live session.
"As a African American woman I have to fight for myself and others to not become some statistic"
The situation was not handled with the urgency expected of a such a vile and malicious assault. The perpetrator herself was not arrested by choice of the police department, but by turning herself in a week after the assault was reported. Both institutions, the school and police department failed Jazzy Rowe, by trying to sweep the events under the rug and not arresting her immediately after her confession.
Jazzy took a public stand because she refused to be an unnamed statistic on the horrors of University life, Say Her Name.
